The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art is an all
honors college founded by inventor, entrepreneur and philanthropist
Peter Cooper in 1859. Offering degrees in architecture, art and
engineering, The Cooper Union has an enrollment of approximately
1,000, primarily undergraduate students, all accepted on the basis
of merit alone. The rigor of The Cooper Union’s three professional
schools—the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, the School
of Art and the Albert Nerken School of Engineering, along with an
exceptional Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences—has made it
one of the most selective institutions of higher education in the nation.
In consonance with Peter Cooper’s belief that “an education of the
first rank” should be “as free as air and water,” The Cooper Union
has provided a full-tuition scholarship to every admitted student for
150 years.
Cooper Union’s cultural and historical traditions make it unique
among baccalaureate colleges, while its reputation for academic
distinction places it on a par with the nation’s most elite universities
and colleges. Embarking on a search for the 12th President of the
institution, The Cooper Union Board of Trustees seeks a strategic,
visionary and inspirational leader with a demonstrated commitment to
academic excellence, a humanistic perspective and a farsighted view
of higher education in an increasingly global community.
Chaired by distinguished alumnus, Francois deMenil, The Cooper
Union Presidential Search Committee invites inquiries, nominations,
and applications for the position of president. Individuals nominated
and those who wish to apply and be considered should provide an
electronic version of their curriculum vitae. All nominations and
applications should be sent via e-mail (Microsoft Word or PDF
documents strongly preferred) to:

appointment is made. The Presidential Search Committee actively
encourages applications from, and nominations of, women and other
protected group members.
