Modern and Contemporary History
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nanyang
Technological University, Singapore, invites qualified academics
who possess PhDs, as well as proven track records in teaching
and research, to apply for faculty positions, as Assistant Professor, or
as Associate Professor / Full Professor, in the area of Modern and
Contemporary History, preferably with a focus on one or more of
the following areas:
• History of East and/or Southeast Asia in global and transnational
perspectives
• History of Science, Technology, and Medicine
• Business History
• Environmental History
For appointment as Full Professor, distinguished records of scholarly
accomplishments that include impactful research publications, track
record in raising research grants, leadership roles in institutions of higher
learning, and strong commitment to teaching and programme
development are expected. In addition to teaching and research, the
successful candidate will be expected to play a leadership role at the
School and the Programme levels. For appointment as Assistant
Professor, a completed PhD by the time of appointment and evidence
of potential for high-quality research are required.
The successful candidates are expected to teach at both
undergraduate and graduate levels, in the fields of their specialization
and/or global/inter-disciplinary history. The School currently offers a
Minor Programme in History, which is to be expanded to a Division
offering a Major in History.

Associate Professor
Department of Industrial Design
The Rhode Island School of Design seeks applicants for a full-time faculty
position in the Department of Industrial Design, to commence in fall 2011.
The Department of Industrial Design is situated in the Division of
Architecture + Design and is one of RISD’s largest departments, with a
vibrant, rigorous program leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s professional
degrees in Industrial Design.
Candidates for this Associate Professor position should have a terminal
Master’s degree and 5-8 years of teaching and professional design practice
(or the equivalent) and thorough knowledge of digital technologies and
interactive media.
As a key member of the faculty, this individual will develop and assist in the
implementation of new curricula and contribute to the department’s focus
on human-centered design, social entrepreneurship, and the emerging green
economy. The candidate is expected to draw upon expertise in strategy,
system design, or experience design to enhance the department’s strengths
in rigorous material study, ergonomics and 3-D modeling.
Preference will be given to candidates who are experienced and accomplished
in studio teaching in design at graduate and undergraduate levels, the creation
of innovative curriculum, academic leadership, and a clear vision of the
effective role and impact of design on humanity, culture, and the environment.

AFRICOLOGY/GLOBAL STUDIES
The Departments of Africology and the Global Studies Program
at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invite applications for a
joint appointment in Africology and Global Studies at the rank of
assistant, associate or full professor level, beginning fall semester
2011. We seek exceedingly well-qualified candidates who have
research and teaching interests in globalization as it relates to issues
of economic environment, education, communicable diseases,
sustainable development, or public policy issues in Africa and the
Diaspora. Junior applicants should have demonstrated potential
and interest to conduct research and to excel in teaching. Ph. D. in
a discipline with a focus in globalization is required at the time of
appointment. Senior applicants should have demonstrated significant
research and publication accomplishments as well as a commitment
to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The person hired will have a half-time appointment and tenure
home in the Department of Africology, with the other half-time
appointment in Global Studies. It is expected that the successful
individual would develop and teach relevant graduate and
undergraduate courses in the Department of Africology, actively
pursue a research agenda that would engage graduate students,
generate extramural funding and maintain a robust publication
record.
In Global Studies, responsibilities include teaching and advising
at an undergraduate level. Global Studies is a campus-wide,
interdisciplinary teaching and research initiative that supports
and engages faculty and students with interests in globalization
issues. At its center is a BA degree program with tracks in Global
Communications, Global Management, Global Cities, and Global
Security. Jointly sponsored by the College of Letters & Science and
several professional schools, the BA currently has over 300 majors
who are studying globalization and transnational phenomena
in conjunction with languages and professional studies, study
abroad, and overseas internship experiences. A Global Studies
Minor allows students in a wide variety of majors to incorporate
international studies into their academic plans. Global Studies
has twelve faculty lines in departmental tenure homes in the
Social Sciences, Humanities, Business and the Arts, including this
position in the Department of Africology. Many more faculty across
UWM are actively engaged in Global Studies teaching and research
activities, which include conferences, lectures, and publications.
