ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR DIVERSITY
Lewisburg, PA
Bucknell University seeks an enterprising and inspiring leader to become its Associate Provost for
Diversity. This person will help build an environment in which diversity and inclusion are fully
integrated into the University’s missions of teaching, scholarship, and community engagement.
The Associate Provost, reporting directly to the Provost, will participate fully in the senior leadership
of the University, and will develop a strategic vision, an operational plan, and policies to promote and
drive a campus culture that values inclusion. The Associate Provost will lead efforts to enhance
diversity on Bucknell’s campus, demonstrating its conviction that differences in race, ethnicity,
culture, socioeconomic class, religion, political perspectives, geographic origins, gender, sexual
orientation, and physical capabilities all contribute to a student’s ability to examine issues from
multiple and sometimes unique perspectives — a foundational skill for effective critical thinking. By
partnering, advising and or collaborating with the academic and administrative units possessing
primary responsibility for achieving University goals, the Associate Provost will:
• work to further diversify the faculty and staff, addressing issues of recruitment, retention, and
campus climate;
• work to initiate and support data-driven plans to identify where improvement is needed for faculty
recruitment, development, and retention, and to track progress;
• work with Admissions to expand Bucknell’s pool of prospective students and establish mutually
supportive working partnerships with other educational institutions with significantly diverse
student populations;
• together with the Associate Dean for Diversity and other members of the President’s Cabinet for
Diversity, collect, interpret, and disseminate data related to the diversity climate on campus,
educating the campus community on important diversity issues;
• work to ensure the sustainability of improvements in the diversification of the Bucknell community;
• work to support developments in curriculum, pedagogy, and scholarship that promote an
academic atmosphere reflecting Bucknell’s commitment to diversity;
• work to oversee the University’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, including
physical and programmatic access, as it pertains to students, faculty, staff and visitors.
Bucknell and its senior leadership hold a deep commitment to Inclusion as a core institutional value
and support the goal of increasing diversity in all dimensions across its student body, faculty, and
staff. Bucknell seeks a strategic leader and diversity advocate with a proven track record of
successfully creating diversity programs and collaborating with a broad range of constituencies in
their implementation. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the energy, enthusiasm,
drive, and engaging personality necessary to achieve ambitious University goals.
The Associate Provost will possess a master’s or doctoral degree as well as experience in
developing, implementing, and evaluating diversity programs, preferably in higher education. The
successful candidate will have strong leadership, organizational and analytical skills. In addition to
a commitment to mission, the candidate must have the ability to work effectively and collegially with
a broad range of internal and external constituencies.
Bucknell University is a highly selective, privately endowed comprehensive university offering
baccalaureate degree programs to about 3400 undergraduates and masters degree programs to
about 150 students. The University is located on a beautiful 450-acre campus in central
Pennsylvania's Susquehanna Valley. New York City, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia
are each within a 3-1/2 hour drive of Lewisburg, which is ranked among the nation’s "most livable"
small towns, on the basis of key resources such as health care, safety, and the economic base. (For
more information about Bucknell University see www.bucknell.edu.)
Applications from, and nominations of, diverse candidates are particularly encouraged.
For more information, or to send email application materials or nominations, contact: Marion Aymie,
Senior Associate, or Monroe “Bud” Moseley, Vice President and Director, at Isaacson, Miller, e-mail:
