THE NATION

RESOURCES
Donations and Revenues
Donations and state appropriations to colleges are down. The recession has led to reductions in the number and size of private gifts to colleges and universities, after private donations hit a record $31.6-billion
in the 2008 fiscal year. The downward trend is expected to last into 2010. Meanwhile, many states cut
appropriations to public institutions during the 2009 fiscal year.
